A Creative Soul in Merrickville

My hubby and I (still getting used to saying that) just got married in September and haven't had a honeymoon yet. So I thought it would be nice for both of us to take a day off of work so we could spend it together. Time alone is something that is a little difficult for us to do, but oh so important. So, we decided to take a day trip to one of my favourite little towns that has all kinds of charm. It is one of those communities that has no big box stores and they do everything in their power to keep it that way. My first stop in Merrickville is always Whistlepost Antiques. They are a bit of a ...

2017 Farm Hop – Local Love

Last weekend we packed up the girls and headed out for a day of driving around the countryside visiting some local farms for the annual Farm Hop. I was so excited that we were able to do it this year. Our first stop was Juniper Farm where organic and biodynamic practices thread their way through all their livestock and vegetable production. We got to walk through the fields and by their chickens and turkeys to get to the main buildings. We tried to get into the farm store but it was SO busy. They have their own veggies, meat and eggs as well as specialize in fermented products like kimchi ...

A Creative Soul In Iqaluit

Well, I finally made it to Iqaluit. I spent quite a bit of time up north in Yellowknife but had never made it over to Iqaluit but always wanted to. It was for barely 24 hours but at least I got there. It had been so long since I had flown Canadian North, it felt like I was going home. Definitely much better then regular airlines, they served warm chocolate chip cookies. Check out this crazy looking airport. When I stepped out of the airport I was surprised by how frontier it felt. This is the main road with the only stop sign. There was a bit of a “traffic jam” at the end of the work day ...

Lavender Ridge – Local Love

When we lived in Aylmer, one of our favourite things to do when we had company, or a Sunday with no agenda, was to take a drive out to Lavender Ridge. It is a lavender farm and winery out in Luskville, Quebec on Highway 148. They love to do wine tastings, no matter what time of day and always have yummy bread and goodies for sale. Now that we have moved out to Luskville and they are minutes away, their bread has become a weekend staple. Their wine is pretty nice and has won some awards. Don't forget to ask for a tasting if you pop-by. They usually give you an amazing lavender shortbread ...

A Creative Soul in Truro, N.S.

I have been doing a bit of travelling with work lately and every time I find out where I am going I always try to get a bit of an inside scoop as to where I should go while I am there. I know there is always TripAdvisor and websites that have the most touristy places to visit but those are not the places that I am particularly interested in. Being a creative soul I like to try and find local gems and since I don’t usually have a ton of time to explore, it would be nice to get some leads. Well, I never seem to be able to find this information so I decided that it might be fun to start sharing ...
