I don’t know if you know this about me but I love finding little known reality tv shows that are more documentary style then drama and ridiculousness. So, I was thrilled to find Taste of the Country which is about a single mom with four girls who moves out to the country and rehabilitates an old farm including a huge barn and turns it into a business. She hosts weddings, cooking events, classes and craft workshops.
I was even more excited to find out she was Canadian and lived about an hour from my in-laws in Pontypool, Ontario. So, on our way home from the annual Baal Christmas dinner, we made a little detour and took a trip to South Pond Farms because they happened to be having a Christmas open house. I was SO excited and hoping to meet the owner Danielle.
This is the view of the main house as you are driving up.
This is the back of it, with the big gorgeous tree.
They had a fenced in area with goats and a bunch of different types of chickens. I LOVE the colour combo of that mini chicken coop.
The entrance to the barn had huge doors and that brick silo was so gorgeous!
Here is the inside of the barn with the awesome chandeliers. This is where they have weddings and workshops.
They had hosted a wreath workshop before we got there. Too bad I missed it.
They were selling hot apple cider, mulled wine and a few different things to eat. I think they had a stew in the dutch oven over the fire. It is what inspired me to get a dutch oven for some retreat meals.
I did end up getting to meet Danielle and one of her daughters who has become a beekeeper (which is another thing we are looking to do) but I didn’t want to seem like a big dork by asking to take a photo with her. It was a pretty inspiring day. You should totally go check out her show!
