All the Easter Things

April 8, 2020 by Renée

I don't know about you but I am super excited about the four day weekend coming up! With Easter days away, I have been snooping around to see how we could make the holiday a little more special for the kids. We usually head to my in-laws for the weekend but with this Corona virus happening, we obviously can't do that this year so everyone is a little disappointed. I came across some pretty cute stuff so I thought I might share all the Easter things I came across. The first thing I was looking for were ways to decorate eggs. Especially since we are getting tons of them from our chickens now ...

Refrigerator Dill Pickles

February 20, 2020 by Renée

I don't know about you but we are big fans of dill pickles around here, especially our youngest. More and more we are trying to make things ourselves so Amelia and I thought we would try making refrigerator dill pickles. They are easy to make, and there's no need for pressure cookers, special jars, and vacuum-tight lids. To make these we just used English cucumbers that were available at our grocery store (I wouldn't recommend the larger thick skinned cucumbers). This recipe is also for a 1 litre jar. We just used a mason jar that we had lying around. Ingredients 1 Tb Sea Salt 1 ...

Beeswax Lotion Bar Recipe

January 3, 2020 by Renée

After my hubby and I finished a Beekeeping Course just before the holidays I started looking into all the things we could do with Beeswax and realized that it is an incredibly versatile ingredient. It can be used in a variety of things including balms, soap, lotion and more. So, with it being winter and the inevitable dry skin that comes along with it, I thought I would try making some lotion bars. In these Beeswax Lotion Bars, the beeswax gives firmness and a lovely yellow color. Olive oil and shea butter are added to give them softness and skin-loving properties. The combination of the oil, ...

20 Sustainable Stocking Stuffer Ideas

December 6, 2019 by Renée

I don't know about you but I have been getting a little more serious about doing my part to help save the planet. The scale of the challenges facing our planet can seem daunting, but we can all do something and protecting our planet starts with each and every one of us. With that in mind, I thought I would try to make our Christmas stockings a little more sustainable this year. While doing some shopping for my family, I came up with this list of 20 sustainable stocking stuffers. When looking for gifts I always try to look local first and usually a local artisan if possible. Why shop at a ...

It’s Pumpkin Time!!

October 25, 2019 by Renée

The countdown 'til All Hallows' Eve is on!! Soon our munchkins will don their costumes and hit the streets to fill their pillow cases with treats, but first, pumpkin carving!! I am sure we aren't the only family tackling their pumpkin carving or decorating this weekend so I thought I would help you with the process.   Clean out your pumpkin I am sure you all know this but you first need to cut a hole into your pumpkin so you can clean out the guts. Personally, I think doing it from the bottom is better so that the candle can be put on a flat surface and is more stable. Once that is ...
