A Creative Soul in Merrickville

October 20, 2017 by Renée

My hubby and I (still getting used to saying that) just got married in September and haven’t had a honeymoon yet. So I thought it would be nice for both of us to take a day off of work so we could spend it together. Time alone is something that is a little difficult for us to do, but oh so important. So, we decided to take a day trip to one of my favourite little towns that has all kinds of charm. It is one of those communities that has no big box stores and they do everything in their power to keep it that way. My first stop in Merrickville is always Whistlepost Antiques. They are a bit of a staple in this little town.

We then had to make a stop at the traditional bakery Nana’s B’s.

They are known for their legendary butter tarts so we picked some up for the girls.

Even though it was October, there were still plenty of flowers blooming which made the tour even nicer.

I felt myself drawn into Wick Witch Candle & Bath Co. They had the most gorgeous products and yummy smelling candles. They even had a full men’s collection called Dandy Diesel.

Of course I had to also go into 1890 Natural Bath Products and buy the girls some bath bombs. One day I will have a bath bomb workshop in the studio so I can start making these myself.

We were so excited to come across Vinyl Destination.

Check out all of this vinyl. We ended up coming home with a Duran Duran record to add to our collection.

We stopped to have lunch at the Goose & Gridiron and I had the most amazing deconstructed chicken pot pie. The beer was pretty good as well.

We were too full to stop at my favourite ice cream store in town, but I highly recommend popping into the Downtowne Ice Cream Shoppe if you are looking for a sweet treat.

It isn’t a trip to Merrickville without stopping at Mrs. McGarrigle’s Fine Mustard & Fine Food.

The gorgeous locks from the bridge in the middle of town.

This was the first time I had gone to Alloy Foundry Company Limited but with the gorgeous building and vines climbing up it, I couldn’t help but be drawn in.

They had the most gorgeous wrought iron pieces. We are thinking we might come back to get a sign done for the farm.

We had such a great day it was hard to leave. We definitely need to do this more often!
